Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! At Sunpower Services, we provide solar panels completely free of charge to businesses, schools, hospitals, and more. Plus, we handle the installation at no cost!
For all the details, head over to our ‘How it Works‘ page.
Our team will need to assess the suitability of your site, so please ensure that all of the following apply:
Roof Requirements
- Solid roof construction (e.g. profile metal cladding)
- Remaining roof life in excess of 20 years
- Roof broadly facing south (south east to south west is acceptable)
- No or minimal protrusions from the roof (e.g. chimneys, flues, ducts etc.)
- No shading of the roof (e.g. from trees or tall surrounding buildings)
- Ideally there are no roof lights in the building or a maximum of 20% of roof area covered by roof lights
Property Requirements
- The property is situated in England or Wales
- Your business property is not a listed building
- The property is not in a conservation area
- You have control over the ability to put solar panels on the roof. E.g. you own the building or have a long lease on the building including the outside shell
Electricity Requirements
- You have a reasonable electricity supply already connected to the building (ideally a minimum of 100 amp 3 phase)
- You do not have any other solar panels on the same electricity supply
- We need a minimum contract period of 10 years (the longer the contract the cheaper the electricity)
- We need a small amount of wall space inside the building to fix some wall mounted inverters which is ideally not in a dusty/contaminated area
Ground Mounted Systems
If you do not have a suitable building or the roof of your building is not suitable for PV then we can supply PV panels on a “ground mount” basis.
For a ground mount system you need a reasonable amount of outdoor space and no shading on that area of space. If you think you have space for a ground mount system instead, or as well as roof mounted, please let us know and we will look into the viability of this.
There’s no catch. Installation and setup are free; you only pay for the electricity you use. Any surplus electricity during sunny periods will be exported to the grid at no charge to you. Sunpower Services may earn from this surplus.
To help put your mind at rest, we are already working with organisations such as Swanley Council and Diggerland UK Theme Parks.
Check our Trustpilot reviews.
The initial unit rate is fixed until December 31, 2025. From January 1, 2026, it will increase by the annual CPI rate for the rest of the agreement.
We guarantee our electricity price will always be at least 10% below your current commercial rate. If commercial rates drop below this threshold, we’ll adjust our rate accordingly. This ensures you benefit if commercial rates fall significantly in the future.
Solar panels typically last between 25 and 30 years, however they can last as long as 40 years.
Solar panels require little maintenance in general. Cleaning them a couple of times a year should be enough in most cases.
The benefits are clear: reducing dependence on the National Grid leads to substantial cost savings for your business. Although exact savings vary based on your business size, industry, and operational hours, many organisations have achieved up to 50% reductions in energy costs with solar solutions.
Harness solar energy to cut your carbon footprint and boost your bottom line. Contact Sunpower Services to make your business premises more energy-efficient. We provide and install a commercial solar PV system at zero cost, ensuring your electricity is both greener and at least 10% cheaper than the commercial rate.
With reduced reliance on the National Grid, you can save significantly on energy expenses while enhancing your sustainability. Let Sunpower Services help you take control of your energy costs and achieve your environmental goals.
Yes, we can provide ground-mounted systems.
If you do not have a suitable building or if the roof of your building is not suitable for PV panels, we can supply them on a “ground-mounted” basis.
For a ground-mounted system, you’ll need a reasonable amount of outdoor space with minimal shading. If you think you have the space for a ground-mounted system, either as an alternative or in addition to a roof-mounted one, please let us know, and we will assess its feasibility.
Contact us to discuss ground-mounted system options.

There are no installation costs, we cover all of the costs involved including surveys, contracts, installation, maintenance and managing the system. The only cost to you is for the energy that you use from our system.
- PV panels
- Inverters
- DC cabling
- AC cabling
- Switch gear
- Meter
- Installation costs
- Grid application costs
- Metering and meter reading costs
- Insurance of the PV system
At the end of the agreement, you can choose from any one of the following three options:
- You ask us to remove the PV installation and make good.
- You have the option to purchase the PV install from ourselves at a price to be mutually agreed at the time, so you will no longer be invoiced by ourselves for PV electricity consumed – you just benefit from free electricity.
- You have the option to extend this agreement at a reduced unit rate to be agreed at the end of the agreement.

The panels themselves are made from silicon and have a protective glass covering, all within a metal frame.
Solar panels can convert between 15-50% of the sun energy into usable solar energy depending on the conditions. 20% is enough to power a house for a day.
Solar panels do not generate energy at night. However, solar energy generated during the day can be stored in batteries.
We guarantee that the price that we charge you for your electricity will always be at least 10% below the all in commercial rate that you are paying at any time for your electricity and for the duration of our agreement.
This means that if the commercial electricity prices drop to below 10% more than the rate we are charging, then we will drop our rate to yourselves accordingly.
Whilst this is very unlikely to happen, this is a safeguard to yourselves to make sure that you are not tied in to paying a fixed rate for electricity should the commercial rate for electricity drop substantially in the future.
PV stands for photovoltaics. The photovoltaic effect is where light converts into energy after connecting with a semiconductor material, such as silicon.
As with any power source, you can charge batteries with solar energy. This means that you can use solar power even after the sun sets.
Rain will do most of the cleaning when it comes to the solar panels. However, a dry cloth or a blower can be used to clear any build-up of dust that accumulates.
Although it is possible for solar panels to overheat, they would have to reach incredibly high temperatures in order to do so. This is very unlikely in the UK.
Solar panels will work when there is even minimal sun. The more direct sunlight there is, the more energy will be generated.
By generating your own power you are relying less on grid electricity. This means less reliance on fossil fuels which release harmful emissions into the air. The same goes for anything that you power from the panels that would previously have relied on using petrol, diesel or oil instead.
